Yule

What is Yule?

Yule is an ancient winter festival with deep roots in Germanic and Norse history. Originally celebrated as a midwinter festival, it coincides with the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year. This period was seen as a sacred time when the veil between worlds was thin and the “Wild Hunt” was said to ride across the sky. For ancient peoples, Yule was a celebration of survival and a defiant spark of joy in the heart of the coldest season, marking the precise moment when the sun begins its slow journey back toward the earth.

The custom of mistletoe started with Yule!

Ancient Druids believed it was a sacred plant of peace, and if enemies met under it in the forest, they had to lay down their weapons and keep a truce until the following day.
